She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, a feeding trough for animals, as there was no crib for him.

In the hills outside Bethlehem, shepherds were tending their flocks when an angel of the Lord appeared to them, radiating divine light and announcing the joyous news: "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be for all people.
