About We Got Your Back
We Got Your Back (WGYB) is a non-government organization legally registered under Rwandan law. It was founded in 2019 by young people strongly committed to empowering children and youth from underserved communities. It envisions a community where every child and youth has access to the essential skills, knowledge, resources, and opportunities to unlock and realize their full potential. Our mission is to empower and inspire children and youth by offering a nurturing environment, comprehensive support, meaningful opportunities, and resources to promote their health, education, well-being, and development.

About Nyobora Project

Nyobora is a digital mentorship and career guidance initiative by We Got Your Back (WGYB) NGO, empowering Rwandan youth (12-30) with skills, knowledge, and resources to thrive in the evolving job market. Aligned with Rwanda’s National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) for youth employment and job creation, the project tackles unemployment and underemployment by bridging the skills gap through a mobile app and USSD platform. It connects youth with global mentors in tech, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, fostering career readiness and digital literacy. The platform provides career guidance, skill-building resources, job/internship opportunities, and mental health and SRHR support. Activities include workshops, mentor training, career fairs, and digital literacy campaigns, ensuring inclusivity for rural and underserved youth. Key outcomes include enhanced employability, innovation, and reduced youth unemployment—directly supporting NST2’s goals of economic growth and workforce development.

NYOBORA'S SUSTAINABILITY LIES IN ITS ABILITY TO TRANSFORM BENEFICIARIES INTO CHANGE AGENTS. The platform creates lasting impact by enabling successful mentees to launch income-generating projects (40% of graduates start microbusinesses), become certified peer mentors (training 3-5 new youth each), and contribute 5% of venture profits back to the program. Corporate partners like MTN and BK Group fund specialized tracks in high-demand fields (AI, renewable energy) in exchange for first-access to top talent, while our "Skills-for-Equity" incubator helps youth tech startups grow while sustaining the platform. This creates a self-fueling ecosystem where every empowered youth becomes a new node of growth - evidenced by our pilot's 73% retention rate of graduates returning as mentors.
