Ultimately, they admitted to the wrongdoing, resulting in billions of dollars in fines, lawsuits, and a significant hit to their reputation. Following the scandal, Volkswagen pledged to become a leader in electric vehicles and invested heavily in green technologies, aiming to regain consumer trust and align their business practices with sustainable principles.
If I were in charge at VW during this crisis, I would have prioritized transparency and ethical responsibility from the get-go. Instead of choosing to deceive regulators and consumers to boost short-term profitability, I would advocate for a corporate culture that values ethical integrity. The immediate focus would have been on compliance with environmental regulations and transparent communication with stakeholders. Implementing comprehensive sustainability initiatives and prioritizing long-term value creation through innovation in eco-friendly technologies would help future-proof the business while maintaining ethical standards.
