Significance of the Study

This research holds substantial relevance and importance for several stakeholders. Scientifically, it contributes original empirical data to the limited body of knowledge on climate change impacts on staple crops in the Pacific, particularly within a high-biodiversity and climatically vulnerable region like PNG. Practically, the findings will provide crucial information for agricultural policymakers, extension officers, and local farming communities in Goroka. Identifying climate-resilient kaukau species and understanding their specific responses will enable the development of evidence-based adaptation strategies, such as promoting drought-tolerant varieties or optimizing planting schedules, thereby enhancing food security, improving livelihoods, and building agricultural resilience against future climatic shocks in the regio.
