Is natural gas renewable or non-renewable

1 answer

Natural gas is considered a non-renewable resource. It is a fossil fuel, formed from the remains of ancient marine organisms that were buried under layers of sediment and rock for millions of years. The extraction and consumption of natural gas depletes this finite resource, and it cannot be replenished on a human timescale. While there are discussions around biogas and other alternative sources of gas that can be produced sustainably, conventional natural gas extracted from underground reservoirs is non-renewable.
