Food Journal and Analysis

Food Consumption Journal
Day 1: Tuesday
For breakfast, I consumed a glass of orange juice (8 oz), a grilled cheese sandwich made with two slices of whole wheat bread and two slices of cheddar cheese, and a serving of grapes (1 cup). For lunch, I had chicken nuggets (8 pieces) with a side of fries (5 oz) and watermelon (1 cup). I drank water throughout the day.

Day 2: Wednesday
Breakfast consisted of two eggs with ham (2 oz), breakfast sausage (2 links), and a glass of orange juice (8 oz). For a snack, I had spicy dill pickle chips (1 oz) and gum. Lunch was a serving of red chilaquiles (1 cup), and I drank water and ate watermelon (1 cup) throughout the day.

Day 3: Thursday
I had a fajita wrap made with a whole grain tortilla, grilled chicken (4 oz), bell peppers, and onions, paired with a frozen strawberry lemonade (12 oz). I enjoyed a serving of Hot Cheetos (1 oz) as a snack, and later, I had mango (1 medium) and chicken Alfredo pasta (1 cup). I also made homemade watermelon juice (8 oz) and drank water.

Food Pyramid Analysis
Analyzing my three-day food intake, it is apparent that my diet includes a variety of food groups, but it does not entirely align with the Food Pyramid guidelines. For grains, I consumed whole wheat bread and a whole grain tortilla, but my servings of fruits and vegetables appear to be limited, primarily consisting of watermelon, grapes, and a small amount of peppers and onions. My protein sources included chicken, eggs, ham, and sausage, but the intake of processed foods like chicken nuggets and Hot Cheetos raises concerns regarding overall nutritional balance. Additionally, my overall consumption of dairy may be insufficient as I only had cheese and eggs without additional servings of milk or yogurt.

This class has made me rethink my dietary choices. I realize that while I enjoy my meals, there is room for improvement in variety and nutrition. Moving forward, I plan to incorporate more vegetables into my diet, such as salads and steamed vegetables, and to replace some processed foods with whole food options. My goal is to achieve a more balanced intake that closely aligns with the Food Pyramid, ensuring I consume an ample amount of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy while minimizing processed foods. Understanding the impact of nutrition on overall health has motivated me to make these changes.
