-3/X = X/-3.
Cross multiply:
x^2 = 9,
Take the sqrt of both sides:
x = +- 3.

x/3 = 4/(x + 1),
Cross multiply:
x^2 + x = 12,
x^2 + x - 12 = 0,
(x - 3) (x + 4) = 0,
x - 3 = 0, x = 3.
x + 4 = 0, x = -4.
