Hi class,

Working with pediatric or geriatric patients might make me nervous at first, especially if I’m not used to those age groups. I think people, especially family members, can pick up on that. If I ever feel uncomfortable, I’d try to stay calm and remind myself that they’re just people who need care. I’d listen closely, be respectful, and apply myself to seem more friendly or open so the patient is more comfortable as well, it's harder to get information from a patient if they are not too comfortable or if the MA seems uncomfortable. The more I learn and practice, the easier it’ll get. Confidence comes with experience, and I’m willing to grow through it.
What can i respond to this classmate ?

Hi [Classmate's Name],

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely understand how working with pediatric and geriatric patients can be intimidating at first. It's great that you recognize the importance of staying calm and creating a welcoming environment for patients. Listening closely and being respectful are essential skills in building rapport, especially with these age groups.

I agree that with practice, we’ll definitely become more confident. Have you thought about any specific strategies or techniques you might use to make yourself feel more comfortable or to connect with patients better? It would be interesting to hear your ideas.

Looking forward to learning alongside you!

Best,
