This deforestation can lead to habitat loss for many animals, causing some species to become endangered or extinct. It can also increase carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which contributes to climate change. Additionally, cutting down trees can cause soil erosion, leading to poorer soil quality for future farming. Finally, local communities may suffer as their natural resources and clean air are diminished.
In order to expand agriculture and stimulate a sagging economy, the Brazilian government eased environmental laws which allowed large tracts of rainforest to be cut down or burned. In three to five sentences, construct a potential chain of consequences for what can happen as a result of this kind of deforestation.
