Simplify the rational expression.

(45y-9xy)/(x^2y-25y)

I got an answer of 9(5-9x)/((x-5)(x+5)) but it seems to be wrong. Can anyone solve this for me and see what they get? Thank you

Read the reply to the last question. There was a mistake in the answer. It should have read:

9(5-x)/((x-5)(x+5))

oh I see... but can u still simplify it further by taking -1?

Yes, you're right. So it becomes:

-9/(x+5)
Good job!

To simplify the rational expression (45y-9xy)/(x^2y-25y), we can factorize the numerator and the denominator separately.

First, let's factor out the common term "9y" from the numerator:
45y - 9xy = 9y(5 - x)

Now, let's factor out the common term "y" from the denominator:
x^2y - 25y = y(x^2 - 25)

Next, let's factor the difference of squares in the denominator:
x^2 - 25 = (x - 5)(x + 5)

Now, we can rewrite the simplified expression:
(45y - 9xy)/(x^2y - 25y) = (9y(5 - x))/(y(x - 5)(x + 5))

Finally, we can cancel out the common factors:
(9y(5 - x))/(y(x - 5)(x + 5)) = (9(5 - x))/(x - 5)(x + 5)

So, the simplified form of the rational expression is (9(5 - x))/(x - 5)(x + 5).

It seems that your answer is correct, but the formatting might be the issue. Make sure to include the multiplication signs and properly group the expression.
