Sikus are what give the folk music of the region of South America near the Andes Mountains its distinctive sound. The siku is made up of two rows of bamboo tubes. Each pipe, or bamboo tube, is a little longer than the one next to it. The tubes in a single row are tied together to look something like a miniature slanted fence. The tubes in both rows are all open at the top (like a bottle without a cap) and closed at the bottom. A person plays the instrument by blowing air across the open end of the tubes, one at a time.

In Bolivia, folk music performances often feature very large groups of sikuris playing sikus of all sizes. The sound these huge groups create when playing together is unlike any other kind of music in the world.
