Upon hearing the news of the September 11 attacks, I would have felt an overwhelming wave of disbelief and fear; it seemed like something out of a movie rather than reality. I would have rushed to the nearest TV to gather more information, as the internet was not as accessible back then, and I’d rely on news broadcasts for updates. In the midst of all this chaos, I’d seek comfort from friends and family, needing to feel connected and safe in such an uncertain time. While the instinct might be to support an aggressive response against those responsible, the more I thought about it, the more I would realize the importance of diplomacy and understanding to prevent further violence and suffering. By the end of that day, amidst everything, a mango might remind me of simpler times with its sweet, refreshing flavor, providing a brief escape from the grim reality we faced.
