There was a minute's pause perhaps, then the Time Traveller went to press the lever, but suddenly said "No," and turning to the Psychologist said, "Lend me your hand." He took the Psychologist's hand in his own and pressed the lever. We all saw the lever turn, and I am absolutely certain there was no trickery. There was a breath of wind, and the lamp flame jumped as the machine suddenly swung round and became a whirl of glittering brass and ivory, then it was gone—vanished! Save for the lamp, the table was bare.
