it all has to do with getting out a message and try to persuade people into doing something,
some tricks are that they use celebrities or someone/something that most people know and use it to get peoples attention
i don't know that's all i can think of :P

What you have is good so far.

The differences include the thing being sold -- political candidate, toothpaste, anti-mosque sentiments in New York, etc.

They all use words and pictures to convey their messages. Other tricks include loaded, biased words, and white lies.
