These salamanders travel at night. They must cross a busy road. But they're black, so they blend in with the road. Cars can't see them. Many salamanders are hit by cars.
Concerned college students wanted to help. They counted how many salamanders were killed by cars. And they presented their findings to the city. City leaders decided to close the road from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. during the migration. This solved the issue. Salamanders now travel safely.
