The seven major tectonic plates of the world are:
- Pacific Plate - The largest tectonic plate, located under the Pacific Ocean.
- North American Plate - Covers North America and parts of the Atlantic Ocean.
- Eurasian Plate - Extends across Europe and Asia.
- African Plate - Covers much of Africa as well as parts of the Atlantic Ocean.
- South American Plate - Covers South America and part of the Atlantic Ocean.
- Antarctic Plate - Underlies Antarctica and extends outward to the surrounding ocean.
- Indo-Australian Plate - Often considered as two plates (the Indian Plate and the Australian Plate), it covers the Indian subcontinent, Australia, and surrounding ocean regions.
These plates are constantly moving and interacting with each other, which is responsible for many geological phenomena, including earthquakes and the formation of mountains.
