A 2019 survey showed peppermint was the most popular winter flavor. Of five major coffee chains in the area, three used peppermint in their top advertised seasonal drinks.
But taking a look at the ads in 2021, I found that coffee chains seemed less in sync in terms of a top flavor. Although all five major chains had similar overall seasonal menus, three of the five had unique flavors in their most advertised drinks.
Perhaps peppermint’s grip on the winter market is waning at last, or perhaps there is simply more value in having a unique marquee product to get customers in the door.
