Question

The Unwanted Trip

The weather was pleasant and the road, flanked by trees on both sides, made a lovely sight for the long, beautiful drive, but Ronnie sat in the car, staring morosely out of the window. Ronnie and his dad were heading out to the countryside to visit Ronnie's grandparents. The trip was unplanned, as Ronnie's father had simply decided to visit his parents one Sunday morning, just like that. Ronnie was forced to go along with his dad, and he was angry because he had made plans for the weekend with his friends Keith and Danny. They had planned to play football on the beach, have dinner at their favorite restaurant, and then watch a movie. But now he was going to miss out on all the fun just because his dad wanted him to visit his grandparents.
He remembered how, just last month, he had been reluctant to move to New Jersey from Minnesota. Although he had been intrigued by the thought of living in a big city, he had loathed the thought of moving away from his friends and from everything that was familiar. Fortunately for him, he had found good friends in Danny and Keith, and gradually he had begun to adjust to life in the new place. This was the first all-day outing that he had planned with his friends since moving here, and he had been looking forward to meeting Danny's and Keith's other friends as well.
"Look Ronnie," his dad said, "I know this trip was unexpected, but think about how elated your grandparents will be to see you—and you can always plan an outing for next weekend."
Ronnie thought a bit about what his father said. He realized that his father was right. He could plan the outing for another time. He smiled at his father, and decided to relax and enjoy the trip.
