-Preparing patient and making sure they undertsand the procedure and the steps

-Starting off with washing hands prior to starting the procedure

-Cleaning the genital area with a antiseptic wipe, for females wipe front to back, for male cleaning the tip in a outward curcular motion

-Start to void in the toilet then mid stream in start voiding in the cup then finish voiding in the toilet

-Wash hands again

-After make sure to close the container with lid

-Make sure labeling is correct such as name, date, what time is was collected etc

Its important to explain to our patients these steps so we can get the most accurate results for whatever we are testing for.
