4. Read the following passage from “The People Could Fly”:

The slaves labored in the fields from sunup to sundown. The owner of the slaves callin himself their Master. Say he was a hard lump of clay. A hard, glinty coal. A hard rock pile, wouldn’t be moved.

What do these details suggest about the character known as “Master”?

He has skin that is rough and burned by the sun.

He is cruel and feels no compassion for the slaves.

He may be stubborn, but he is always fair.

He works the slaves so hard that they hate him.

And you think the answer is ... ?
I'll be glad to comment on your answer.
I'll take each answer and show you why I think it is right, or why I think it is wrong.

"He has skin that is rough and burned by the sun." This answer is completely irrelevant and is trying to throw me off course.

"He is cruel and feels no compassion for the slaves" This is what I think the right answer is, and I'll show why by narrowing down the other answers.

"He may be stubborn, but he is always fair. " This could also be correct, but it says nothing about being fair.. Or stubborn, although it does compare him to a rock..

"He works the slaves so hard that they hate him." This isn't the correct answer either, as it doesn't say that the slaves "hate him".

So, my answer would either be, "He is cruel and feels no compassion for the slaves." or "He may be stubborn, but he is always fair.", but I'm almost certain it's "He is cruel and feels no compassion for the slaves.".
Yay! Good thinking! :-)
Submitted it and got it right, thank you ma'am. :)
