When interpreting the meaning of "my sweet old etcetera" by E.E. Cummings, the greatest consideration should be the poet’s feelings about war. The poem reflects a personal and unique perspective on the impact of war, presenting a juxtaposition of familial experiences and emotions related to the events of the time. Cummings uses irony and contrast to express his complex feelings, suggesting a critique of the glorification of war and the diverse, often painful reactions of those left behind. While symbolism, family relationships, and historical context are important, the emotional core and personal stance towards war are central to understanding the poem's meaning.
