How do you feel about your most recent STAAR?
I feel kinda mixed about my recent STAAR. It was really confusing, and I didn’t feel super confident while taking it. I think I did my best, but I’m not sure if it was good enough. It was stressful!
What surprised you?
I was surprised at how tricky some of the questions were. I thought I would have a pretty good idea about what to expect, but some of the questions were really different from what we practiced in class. There were also a few questions that I didn’t even understand! I didn’t think I would have a hard time with reading, but some of the passages were super weird and hard to connect with.

I struggled the most with the math section. I thought I would do okay since I usually like math, but the word problems just threw me off. They were longer than I expected, and it took me a while to figure out what they were asking. What helped was taking my time and trying to break down the problems into smaller parts. I told myself to just breathe and focus on one thing at a time instead of panicking.

Yeah, I did study! I used flashcards for vocabulary words and math formulas, which helped me remember things better. I also did some practice tests online. But I wish I had done more practice with the kind of questions we saw on the test. That would have made me feel more prepared!

Next year, I definitely want to start studying earlier and ask my teachers for extra help if I don’t understand something. I think I’ll try to set a regular study schedule so I don’t leave everything to the last minute. I believe I can conquer the STAAR next time because now I know what to expect, and I’ll be ready to tackle it!
