For the first problem,
Distance = sqrt[(y2-y1)^2 + (x2-x2)^2]
= sqrt[(-1)^2 + 7^2] = sqrt 50 = 7.071..
Your second problem did not print out in a way that makes sense. I assume you meant
x/(x^2-64) -8/(64-x^2)
= x/(x^2-64) + 8/(x^2-64)
= (x+8)/[(x+8)*(x-8)]
= 1/(x-8)
Distance = sqrt[(y2-y1)^2 + (x2-x2)^2]
= sqrt[(-1)^2 + 7^2] = sqrt 50 = 7.071..
