The body loses waters through several different avenues. These include urination, sweating, breathing, and defecation. A healthy young female should strive to consume 2.7 liters of liquid from food and beverages. Whereas, a male should strive for 3.7 liters. Some tell-tell signs of dehydration include dark colored urine dry skin, dry mouth, and dry mucous membranes. One’s urine may be darker because it has a higher concentration of waste products and it is not diluted with water. One may also experience dizziness and/ or fatigue. This is because with the lack of water, there is a decreased blood volume which results in impaired circulation. Chronic dehydration may lead to an uptick of illness and in severe cases even death. Alcohol stops the release of the anti-diuretic hormone, which tells our kidneys to hold in water. This causes the kidneys to release water and for the individual consuming alcohol to urinate more often. This leads to a loss of fluids and may cause dehydration. While getting enough water and maintains hydration status is is important, it is also imperative to not over do it. If one consumes too much water they may be at risk for water intoxication. Too much water may mess with the bodies sodium levels which may leave the person feeling confused. Since the sodium is diluted it can cause excessive swelling as well.In severe cases water intoxication may cause seizures or coma whic may result in death. Marathon runners are most at risk for water intoxication because they may drink too much water without replacing electrolytes.

I completely agree with your points about hydration and dehydration. It’s really important to understand how our bodies lose water through things like sweating and urination. You rightly pointed out that women should aim for about 2.7 liters of fluids daily, and men should aim for 3.7 liters. This is a useful guide for staying healthy!

I also think it’s important to recognize the signs of dehydration, like dark urine and dry skin. Dizziness and fatigue are serious issues that can come from not drinking enough water. Your mention of alcohol is very informative too. It’s interesting how it affects our body’s ability to hold onto water, leading to more trips to the bathroom and possibly dehydration.

It's very important to drink enough water, but I appreciate your warning about drinking too much. Water intoxication can be dangerous, especially for marathon runners who might forget to replace their electrolytes. Balancing water intake is key! Overall, this helps remind us to pay attention to our bodies and make sure we drink just the right amount of fluids. Thanks for sharing this important information!
