If n = 3, then l(ell) can be 0, 1(the #1), or 2; therefore, you can have s, p and d subshells.
If n = 4, then l can be 0, 1, 2, or 3 and subshells can be s, p, d, and f.
s has 1 orbital and 2 electrons.
p has 3 orbitals and 6 electrons.
d has 5 orbitals and 10 electrons.
f has 7 orbitals and 14 electrons.
Now what do you think for g?
