Since Algernon died, I’ve been feeling a heavy weight in my chest that I can't shake off. Watching him regress was like watching a beautiful dream fade into a haunting nightmare. I remember how fast he used to run through the maze, so clever and alive, but in his last days, he struggled with the simplest tasks, much like I do now. It’s terrifying to think that I might follow in his footsteps, losing the brilliance I’ve gained. Every day, I feel a little more lost and a little less like the person I was becoming, haunted by the thought that my own mind may soon slip away like his did.
