As I watch Algernon struggle to navigate the maze, a heaviness settles in my chest. It’s hard for me to accept that the bright, clever mouse who once outsmarted everyone is now losing his way. I can see the confusion in his tiny eyes, a reflection of what I fear might happen to me. It’s frightening to think that the progress I’ve made could slip away like sand through my fingers. If Algernon can regress, how much longer do I have before I start to forget everything I’ve learned?
