Representative Michele Bachmann and other supporters have worked hard to send bills through the legislative process that would allow for funding the PRT; however, they have not been successful.
In 2004, a bonding bill for $4 million was passed by the House, but it was later thrown out in a conference committee. In addition, a number of the PRT supporters have faced some legal issues and have had to step off to the sidelines, thereby making the PRT just another idea simmering on the back burner. For example, Professor J. Edward Anderson, a key developer of the Skyweb PRT and co-founder of the Taxi 2000 Corporation, was denied in his attempt to regain control of the company, and in 2005, had a lawsuit filed against him. Minneapolis Councilmember Gary Dean Zimmerman, another supporter of the PRT system, was charged by the Attorney General with forcing bribes from the developer. Yet another supporter, Rep. Mark Olsen, was arrested for domestic assault.
