In "The Life of a Slave Girl" by Harriet Jacobs, we see how people change as they face tough situations. One character who changes a lot is Linda Brent, who is actually Harriet Jacobs herself.
At the beginning of the story, Linda is a young girl who doesn’t know much about how hard life can be as a slave. She is hopeful and dreams of a better life. But then, as she grows older, she has to deal with her master, Dr. Flint, who wants to control her life and make her very unhappy. This makes her feel scared and trapped.
By the time we get to the chapter about "The New Tie to Life," Linda has changed a lot. She becomes much stronger and more determined. She decides to take charge of her life and fight for her freedom. Linda starts to plan an escape, and she also realizes how important her family is to her. Even though she is very scared, she knows that she has to do this for her children and herself.
So, from being a hopeful girl at the beginning, Linda turns into a brave woman who fights for what is right. She learns that even though life can be very hard, she can still have hope and fight for her freedom and her family. This shows how strong she has become and how much she cares about her loved ones.
