ralph displays 9 samples of fabric on a rectangular posterboard. each sample is a 3-inch square. he places them in 3 rows each 1 inch apart on all sides. this arrangement leaves a border of poster board 1 1/4 inches along the sides and 1 1/2 inches along the top and bottom. what are the dimensions of the posterbjard?

Do you mean you can't add?

1 1/4 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 1 1/4

The sum of those above numbers will give you the width of the poster board.
