Question

Kyoko had been distracted all day at school. She knew that their new radio was going to be delivered today, and her mother had promised that they’d listen to a broadcast together as a family. Her lessons had seemed to drag on and on as she counted down the minutes until she would be dismissed. When the school day finally ended, it was all she could do not to run at a full sprint until she was home at last.

She paid no attention to her friends who tried to chat with her as she left the building, skipping down the steps two at a time. She raced down the sidewalk until she made it to her neighborhood, stopping only to grab the mail from the mailbox since that was one of her daily jobs.

She unlocked the front door and dashed inside, dropping her school bag to the floor. Her brother was already seated on the ground in front of the magical wooden box covered in shiny gold knobs. He was staring in awe of this new contraption, nervous to even touch it. Immediately, Kyoko settled down right next to him, feeling her heart speed up. “Can I go ahead and turn it on?” she called out to her mother, who was preparing a snack in the kitchen for the family to enjoy as they listened. “Not yet, we’re going to listen to it as a family and we have to wait for your father and sister to get back!” her mother replied as she cut an apple into slices.

Kyoko could hardly stand the wait, but soon enough the entire family was gathered in a circle around the radio. The plate of snacks was ignored, as everyone was much too excited to eat at the moment. Her father reached forward and flipped the switch, fiddling with the antenna. The radio crackled to life and soon the living room was filled with the smooth sound of a radio announcer. Kyoko ran her fingers through the shaggy carpet and smiled to herself. She couldn’t wait for the program to begin!

They show Kyoko is excited about a very big moment.

Kyoko's thoughts and actions throughout the passage clearly indicate her excitement and anticipation for the arrival of the radio and the family experience that will follow. Her distraction at school, eagerness to rush home, and the visceral reactions she displays (like dashing inside and settling eagerly next to her brother) all convey her enthusiasm for this significant moment. Despite the wait for her family's complete presence, her exhilaration is palpable, culminating in the joyful atmosphere when the radio is finally turned on.
