00:03: In this video, we're gonna talk about the absolute value. So what we need to start with is, what is the absolute value? The absolute value is the distance of X from zero on a number line. So it's the distance from zero on a number line. So it's, how far away is a number from zero, in either direction? So it asks how far away, and note that you can go in either direction. So I have the number line down here, and let's say that we were talking about the absolute value of three. So what that means is, is if this is zero, the absolute value of three is gonna be three units away from zero in either direction. So one, two, three. So here's three. This is three units to the right. Or we can go one, two, three, over here to negative three, where this is three units to the left. And that's what absolute value means. Let's look at another example. Okay. Here I have two points marked on a number line, and I wanna figure out what this is the absolute value of. So let's count, how far away from zero am I, and do I go that same distance in both directions? So one, two, three, four, five, six. So this is six units to the right. Okay. Negative one, negative two, negative three, negative four, negative five, negative six. So this is six units to the left. So in this case, I am six units away from zero in either direction. So this is the absolute value of six.
