If you are traveling 100 miles and the car you are driving has tires with a radius of 14in. How many revolutions of each tire occurred in your trip?
100 miles = 5280 feet
1 foot = 12 inches
There are 12x5280x100 = 6,336,000 inches in 100 miles
One revolution of a tire covers 14Pi = 43.98 inches, say 44 inches..
Therefore, the number of revolutions that each tire makes over the 100 mile trip is 6,336,000 divided by 44 = 144,000.

Question?
Doesn't one revolution of a tire the same as its circumference? Isn't the circumference pi*d (not radius)?

That is correct, the revolution number or circumference needs to be doubled. This halves the number of revolutions

OUCH! So right you are. That one slipped right by me. I thought I had used the diameter.

One revolution of a tire covers 2(14)Pi = 88 inches..
Therefore, the number of revolutions that each tire makes over the 100 mile trip is 6,336,000 divided by 44 = 72,000
Sorry for the mixup..
