What I Learned Today in School
Today was one of those days where I actually felt like I was learning something meaningful—like, really meaningful. In history class, we dove into the complex causes of World War I. It’s wild to think that just one assassination kicked off such a massive conflict. We talked about nationalism and how the tangled alliances between countries created a powder keg situation in Europe. It made me realize how interconnected events can shape the world in ways we often overlook. It’s crazy to think something that happened over a century ago still affects international relations today.
In math, we tackled calculus for the first time, and I won’t lie: it was intimidating at first. But once we started working on limits and derivatives, it clicked for me. The idea that we can describe the motion of objects with math feels empowering. It’s like getting a new lens to view the world, where I can see how everything—like cars on the highway or the path of a soccer ball—can be modeled with equations. I think I'm starting to appreciate the real-life application of this stuff more, even if I still get a bit lost sometimes.
Lastly, during our English class, we analyzed poetry, and it was surprisingly fun. We looked at some poems from the Harlem Renaissance, and I was struck by how the writers expressed their struggles and triumphs. It felt like I could actually connect with their feelings, which made the whole experience resonate more. Poetry isn’t just about pretty language; it’s about emotion and history.
