Gravity from the Moon and the Sun affects Earth's waters, causing tides. The Moon's gravitational pull creates a bulge of water on the side of Earth that faces it, which we call a high tide. On the opposite side of Earth, another high tide occurs because the Earth is pulled slightly more than the water there, creating another bulge. As Earth rotates, different areas move in and out of these bulges, leading to regular cycles of high and low tides.
