Do you mean ATTAIN a velocity of 10 km/s?

If so, convert V = 10 km/s to m/s. That is 10,000 m/s.

Then require that
sqrt(2aX) = V(final) = 10,000 m/s,
with a (the acceleration) = 5g = 49 m/s^2.

Then solve for the distance X
