In Chapter 5 of "The Great Gatsby," the following statements apply:
- Nick gets home one night to find Gatsby's house blazing with light.
- In order to prepare for the meeting with Daisy, Gatsby sends over an abundance of food and cakes.
- Gatsby almost breaks an antique clock on Nick's mantle piece.
- We learn that Gatsby bought the house and everything in it purely to impress Daisy.
- At the end of the chapter, Nick leaves the two lovers alone as they seem absorbed with each other.
The following statements do not apply:
- Nick, while reluctant, does not accept Gatsby's offer for some part-time work in this chapter.
- Daisy does remember Gatsby when she sees him at Nick's house (though there is an emotional reunion, Gatsby's identity is a bit strange to her initially).
- There is no mention of Gatsby having an overwhelming supply of handmade suit jackets that makes Daisy cry in this chapter.
