Question

In 3 to 5 sentences, explain how ears detect sound and how eyes detect light.(4 points)

1 answer

Ears detect sound through a process that begins with sound waves entering the ear canal, where they cause the eardrum to vibrate. These vibrations are transmitted through three tiny bones in the middle ear (ossicles) to the cochlea in the inner ear, which converts them into electrical signals that the brain interprets as sound. Conversely, eyes detect light using photoreceptor cells in the retina, specifically cones and rods. When light hits these cells, it triggers chemical changes that generate electrical signals sent to the brain via the optic nerve, allowing us to perceive images.
