A nation is a group of people who share the same culture, language, or history, like the Cherokee people in the United States. A state is a political entity with its own government and defined borders, like California or Texas. A nation-state combines both ideas: it’s a country where the boundaries of the nation and state match, such as Japan, where most people share the same culture and language. So, to sum it up, a nation is about people and culture, a state is about politics and borders, and a nation-state connects both by having a unified culture within a defined area.
