Usable forms of nitrogen in the soil can intentionally be increased by allowing organic matter to decompose. Decomposing organic matter, such as plant material and manure, enriches the soil with nitrogen through the process of mineralization, making it available to plants.
While lightning can also convert atmospheric nitrogen into usable forms for the soil, it is a natural process that cannot be directly controlled or increased intentionally. Planting more trees and planting fewer beans do not directly contribute to increasing usable nitrogen forms in the soil. In fact, legumes like beans can enhance nitrogen levels due to their symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
