This group’s aim was to speak out against Pakistani laws that discriminated against women. In 1983 the WAF held its first protest. Its focus was a criminal case against a thirteen-year-old girl named Safia Bibi. The court found Bibi guilty, and she was sentenced to prison for three years. In reality, she was innocent.
