Today there are many different types of straws. (2) There are plastic straws, paper straws, and even metal straws. (3) There are bendy straws and even straws with a small spoon at the bottom used for slushy-type drinks. (4) But where did it all begin?

The best transition for Jeremy to add at the beginning of sentence 7 is:

A For this reason

This transition effectively links Marvin's experience with the standard straw (a piece of ryegrass) causing a gritty residue in his drink to his decision to create a better solution. It emphasizes the cause-and-effect relationship between the problem he encountered and his motivation to invent a new type of straw.
