you probably meant to type
1/(x + 2) + 1/(x - 2) = 1/(x^2 - 4)

multiply each term by x^2 - 4, ( which factors to (x+2)(x-2) )

x-2 + x+2 = 1
2x = 1
x = 1/2

multiply both sides by (x+2)(x-2)

x-2+x+2=1
x= 1/2
