Question

Element SuperHero Project Instructions
You have been hired by Elements of the Universe, a comic book publisher, to create a new superhero or villain whose appearance, super hero/villainistics and powers are based on an element in the periodic table. You will then create a trading card for your super hero/villain. To complete your project:

1. Research your element using the approved websites. You must use only these websites – no using Google or other search engines!
2. Use your research to complete your Fact Sheet document. Record your findings in your own words – no copying!
3. Design and create your superhero/villain’s trading card (project) using the research from your Fact Sheet (instructions below).

Project Requirements – Your trading card must have the following:
1. Superhero/villain’s Statistics (FACT section)
2. Super hero/villain’s Backstory (CREATIVE section)
3. Drawing/Graphics of Superhero/villain with descriptions of abilities (ILLUSTRATION section)

FACT Section (Goes on the back of the trading card with the CREATIVE section) Superhero/villain Statistics
• Secret Identity (name of the element) • Weight (average atomic mass)• Nickname (symbol) • Height (atomic number) • Creation Date (date element discovered) • Species (type of element: metal, nonmetal, metalloid, etc.) • Scientist Responsible (discoverer) • Gender (state of matter at room temperature) • Place of origin (country of discovery) • Personality (boiling point & melting point)

CREATIVE Section (Goes on the back of the trading card with the FACT section)
Every superhero or villain has a backstory. For your super hero/villain, the backstory must relate to actual facts about the element. It must include at least five (5) properties of your element as part of the story. In a paragraph of 8 sentences or more, explain the following:
• Origin – Must relate to where you find the element naturally or where it is manufactured, who discovered it, when it was discovered, etc.
• Powers/strengths & weaknesses – Describe superpowers and identify weaknesses (e.g., Superman has kryptonite); Explain the source of those powers
• Love interest/Sidekick – Just like most elements have at least one other element that it is attracted to or combines with easily, you must create a sidekick or love interest for your super hero/villain.

ILLUSTRATION Section (Goes on the front of the trading card)
Your superhero/villain’s appearance should reflect the element represented. For example, if your element is a shiny metal, then your element should also be shiny. Additionally, your superhero/villain’s costume MUST include the element symbol.
Surrounding the drawing/graphics of your superhero/villain you MUST have at least three (3) descriptions of your superhero/villain’s powers and abilities as they relate to the element’s properties.

- **Melting Point:** 1910°C

**2. Creating the Trading Card**

**FACT Section (Back of the Card)**

- **Secret Identity:** Vanadium
- **Weight:** 50.9415 g/mol
- **Nickname:** V
- **Height:** 23
- **Creation Date:** Discovered in 1801
- **Species:** Transition Metal

**CREATIVE Section (Back of the Card)**

**Backstory of Vanadrax (The Superhero Name)**

Once an ordinary scientist named Dr. Victor Vantone, he was conducting experiments on alloys when a freak accident involving a vanadium-rich ore altered his molecular structure, giving him incredible powers. As Vanadrax, he embodies the strength of vanadium, a transition metal highly valued for its toughness and resistance to corrosion. Found naturally in places like China and South Africa, vanadium is associated with strength and resilience, much like the hero himself. His powers include incredible durability, the ability to absorb impact, and impenetrable skin that withstands extreme temperatures up to 3400°C. However, his affinity for vanadium also makes him vulnerable to exposure to very high temperatures beyond his boiling point—it can destabilize his powers and even pose a threat to his life. Vanadrax has a love interest and sidekick named Alloy, a manipulative metal figure that provides support through magnetic abilities, representing ferromagnetic elements like iron. Together, they battle against those who misuse metal resources for destruction, ensuring the balance of nature is preserved.

**ILLUSTRATION Section (Front of the Card)**

**Appearance & Graphics:**

Illustrate Vanadrax with a sleek, metallic, silver-blue costume reflecting the lustrous nature of vanadium. His costume should prominently feature the letter "V" symbol, which stands for both his superhero identity and the element itself.

**Powers and Abilities:**

1. **Metallic Durability:** Vanadrax's skin is as strong as vanadium itself, making him nearly impervious to physical attacks.
2. **Thermal Resistance:** He can withstand extreme temperatures, providing him an advantage in battles against heat-based adversaries.
3. **Strength Boost:** Drawing on vanadium's ability to enhance the toughness of steel, Vanadrax can boost the strength of any metal he touches, making it nearly indestructible.

By connecting the properties of vanadium with the character and story of Vanadrax, we create a compelling superhero that embodies the essence of his elemental origin.
