If you want to read about earthquakes, an encyclopedia can give much information. Look on plate tectonics. The core of the earth is very hot and consists of molten magma. There are a number of "plates" on which land rests. When these plates move the edges rub against one another and that causes bumping, grinding, and this translates on the earth's surface as an earthquake. I hope this helps.
