My inspiration for this poem stemmed from my passions of doing makeup and my aspiration of starting a clothing brand when I begin public school as a freshman. I wanted to capture the excitement and creativity I feel while applying makeup, especially when working with lash clusters, and the dream of designing clothes. More surprisingly, while contemplating my creativity, I was struck by the image of a rotten banana—a metaphor for things gone wrong or expired but also a reminder of renewal and creativity that can grow from unexpected places. This juxtaposition fueled my exploration of how to transform something that seems negative into beautiful expressions in makeup and fashion.
