Combine like terms.

-720 = -8x
-720/-8 = x
90 = x

first you would need to find the value of x

I divided -720 by 9 and got -80 however this is not correct so I tried -90 and it proved to be true.

So x = -90

I also would like to know what a simpler way of solving this problem would be?
