Setting Description:
The play is set in an old, abandoned house rumored to be haunted. Dimly lit with flickering lights, cobwebs cling to the corners, and the air is filled with tension and the faint sound of whispers. The walls are old and peeling, enhancing a sense of decay, with a heavy wooden door that creaks ominously. Outside, a thunderstorm brews, casting eerie shadows through the broken windows.
Script:
(As the play opens, dim lighting reveals the interior of the haunted house. Thunder rumbles in the distance. A soft wind howls outside.)
NARRATOR: (In a chilling tone) In the heart of the night, beneath a storm-laden sky, three souls venture into the depths of fear. There lies a house steeped in shadows and secrets. Welcome to… Whispers in the Dark.
(ELENA, VICKY, and DAN enter the house, flashlights illuminating the way.)
ELENA: (excitedly) Can you believe we’re finally here? This is where they say the lady in white roams!
VICKY: (rolling her eyes) Great, a haunted house. Just what we need. How many horror stories have started like this?
DAN: (looking around nervously) I… I thought it would be fun.
NARRATOR: (as they explore) What lies ahead is not just a ghost story, but the shadows of their own fears.
(They move deeper into the house, their flashlights flickering.)
ELENA: (pointing) Look! Over there!
(They notice an old photograph on the wall. A haunting image of a woman in white.)
VICKY: (skeptically) Okay, creepy. But I still don’t believe in ghosts.
DAN: (softly) Some things can’t be explained…
(Suddenly, a loud crash echoes from somewhere deeper in the house. The lights flicker more violently.)
VICKY: (panicking) What was that?
ELENA: (fascinated) Let’s check it out!
DAN: (hesitant) Maybe we should leave…
NARRATOR: (whispering) Each step leads them further into the unknown, where fear feeds upon the brave and the curious.
(They move toward the sound, but suddenly, the lights go out completely. A chilling silence envelops them.)
VICKY: (breathlessly) Elena, where are you?
ELENA: (shouting) I’m right here!
(A whispering voice fills the darkness.)
WHISPERING VOICE: (distorted) Get out…
DAN: (frightened) Did you hear that?
ELENA: It’s just the wind, right?
(The voice grows louder, more insistent.)
WHISPERING VOICE: (echoing darkness) Get out…
(The lights flicker back on, revealing a shadowy figure in the corner. The figure is the woman from the photograph.)
VICKY: (screaming) RUN!
(They all sprint towards the door but struggle with the old handle. As they attempt to open it, the woman steps forward.)
DAN: (shouting) It won't budge!
ELENA: (terrified) We can’t die here!
NARRATOR: (with suspense) The harbingers of fear have found them, and the spirits of the past awaken…
(The woman raises a finger to her lips, signaling for silence, her eyes piercing through the darkness.)
WHISPERING VOICE: (calm now) Stay… just a little longer.
(The lights flicker again, and in that moment of chaos, the door creaks open.)
VICKY: (shouts) GO! NOW!
(They dash out as the woman fades into the shadows.)
NARRATOR: (resounding) Perhaps some doors are best left unopened, and some whispers… unheard.
(The lights finally cut out and the stage goes dark.)
