Cylinders and Cones
Cylinders are shapes that look like cans, and they have two flat circles on the top and bottom, connected by a curved side. Cones, on the other hand, are pointy shapes that have a circular base and come to a single point at the top, like a party hat.
Surface Area of Cylinders
The surface area of a cylinder is the total area of its curved surface plus the areas of the two circles at the ends. To find the surface area, you use the formula: Surface Area = 2πr(h + r), where "r" is the radius of the circles and "h" is the height of the cylinder.
Surface Area of Cones
For cones, the surface area includes the area of the circular base plus the curved surface that wraps around. The formula to calculate the surface area is Surface Area = πr(r + l), where "r" is the radius of the base and "l" is the slant height, which is the distance from the base to the tip along the side.
Volume of Cylinders
The volume of a cylinder is how much space it takes up, which can be found using the formula Volume = πr²h. In this formula, "r" is the radius of the circular base and "h" is the height, so this tells us how big the inside of the cylinder is!
Volume of Cones
For cones, the volume is also measured in space but is calculated differently because they come to a point. The formula for the volume of a cone is Volume = (1/3)πr²h, where "r" represents the radius of the circular base and "h" is the height of the cone.
Surface Area of Spheres
Spheres are perfectly round shapes, like basketballs, and their surface area is calculated using the formula Surface Area = 4πr². Here, "r" is the radius, which is the distance from the center of the sphere to its surface.
Volume of Spheres
The volume of a sphere tells us how much space is inside of it and can be found using the formula Volume = (4/3)πr³. In this formula, "r" is the radius of the sphere, and this helps us understand how much room is inside the round shape.
