Need help. solve 5 - y/3 for y= -3,

25 - y = 7
3y + 8 = 3, 5 - 3y =7, y/3= -9.
Not sure when to use opposite sign or divide to move to other side of equation?
3y + 8 = 3
- 8 -8
3y = -5
y = -5/3
y = -1 2/3 Is this correct?
